Implementation (Phase of Design)

From The Learning Engineer's Knowledgebase

(Redirected from Implementation)

Implementation is the act of using an educational product. It is the phase of the ADDIE Model in which an educational product is used in real settings with real people. Data are collected during implementation for evaluation purposes on how the product worked. Implementation also often involves someone who serves as an implementer of the product, such as a teacher or facilitator who directs the participants' use of the product.

Implementation is the act of using an educational product. Implementation is the fourth component of the ADDIE model, which focuses on the actual use of a product in real-world settings.

A designer needs to clearly communicate how a product should be implemented so that the activities are conducted in the ways that are intended by the designer and to avoid any gaps that might occur between the intended-implemented-achieved chain of how a product gets used.

Tasks and actions for implementing educational products:

  • Launching an educational product into distribution
  • Onboarding and training implementers to use an educational product
  • Communicating the intention of the designer to the implementers
  • Monitoring the implementation and usability of an educational product
  • Maintaining the functionality and operation of an educational product
  • Making minor improvements to an educational product while it is in distribution
  • Measuring fidelity of implementation
  • Promoting and sharing an educational product
